US senators introduce two-person train crew bill
Two US Senators have just introduced a bill that would mandate a minimum of two-person crews on all freight trains operating in the country.
The legislation is in response to the Federal Railroad Administration’s decision earlier this year to withdraw a proposed two-person crew rule.
RTBU NSW Loco Secretary, Bob Hayden, said the move would be a significant win for safety in the United States.
“It’s no secret that the safety of workers and others depends on our trains being staffed adequately.
“The drive to remove workers from our trains is a safety issue we’re seeing here in Australia, and it’s clear that it’s a global trend. It’s good to see these US Senators taking action to protect rail safety.”
