Sydney Metro: tunnels flooded and unreliable
The recent wave of bad weather in Sydney has left the Metro in turmoil. Photos of the tunnel between North Ryde and Chatswood reveal that flood water is currently sitting at the height of the platform with hundreds of metres of track remaining underwater.
Transport for NSW says that the water pumps in place could not handle the huge amount of water and have flooded before. Although staff are working around the clock to pump the water out, this brings up questions regarding the reliability and quality of the Metro.
“It’s not surprising that this project has proved itself to be a colossal waste of taxpayer dollars. This government is so incredibly incompetent that they spared no thought to what would happen to the tunnels in heavy rain,” said RTBU NSW Loco Division Secretary Bob Hayden.
