Proposed NSW Trains InterCity Schedule Optimisation

Jul 4, 2018Update

Members are advised that NSW Trains has begun initial consultation regarding the optimisation of InterCity drivers schedules prior to the 2018 timetable implementation. The stated intention is to remove/reduce the amount of “pass” working from schedules where practical to do so as well as remove/reduce the amount of report time contained within schedules. This would mean that drivers would work services in both directions instead of “pass” on one leg and work services where possible instead of reporting.

The intended outcomes generated from this would be to create additional relief lines of work with the stated intention of allowing for additional training, leave and secondment opportunities. Clearly there will be an impact on the balance of train working  between depots with nearly every depot having “pass” working to some degree as well as an element of report time in their schedules. The impact these proposals will have on schedules and rosters remains to be seen and local rostering/scheduling committees will obviously require consultation as per the EA prior to any implemented change.
