PN: Mobile Phone Update

ATTENTION ALL PN TRAIN CREW:

On Tuesday the 17th of December, RTBU Officials (Allan Barden, Leanne Holmes, Keith McMahon, Greg Camron and Kevin Pryor) met with Pacific National (Kate Alam, Brett Lynch, Simon Atkinson and Craig Liddy).

Safety

Following the last meeting (on Monday 9th of December), Pacific National were to report back with their reviews of the Safety Procedures and the Risk Assessments. No documentation was provided however PN indicated they had reviewed their procedures and whilst they acknowledged “gaps” in the safety procedures, they claim that the Risk Assessments done in the Coal depots of Bowen (Qld) and Gunnedah (NSW) were sound.

After pressure from the RTBU, PN have now agreed to do Depot by Depot Risk Assessments over January. Therefore, it is vital that Delegates and HSR’s fill out the attached form and send it back to Keith McMahon (Assistant National Secretary – Locomotive Division) so that the Union can assist the local SHE committees with the review. It is imperative that the HSR and SHE/WHE Committees are part of this process to ensure that the Risk Assessments are sound. Keith’s email is, kmcmahon@rtbu.org.au

Surveillance

Due to the relentless pressure from the RTBU membership, Pacific National have capitulated and will turn off the “Location Services” component of the mobile phones. For good.

This is a massive win and will ensure that PN do not have the capacity to track Drivers through the mobile phones.

Communications Monitoring Policy

Following a Resolution through the NSW Locomotive Divisional Council and a commitment made by PN in the NSW Bulk and Coal EA, the RTBU has requested a meeting to draft a National PN Communications and Monitoring Policy. The proposal includes bringing delegates in from all Divisions nationally to be at the table.

Next Steps

A National RTBU Driver Delegate phone hook-up is on Friday 20 December.

And the next meeting with PN will be in mid to late January.
