NSW Trains agrees to bargain – Sydney Trains to follow!

Dear Members,

RTBU members everywhere have been voting to tell Sydney and NSW Trains that they want to bargain – NOW!

Today, following sustained action and pressure from members NSW Trains has finally agreed to bargain.

Your EA delegate team have worked tirelessly to make sure everyone completed their Majority Support Determination vote.

NSW Trains members reached majority in their MSD earlier this week. As a result of your collective action, your Union submitted an application to the Fair Work Commission on Monday, effectively forcing NSW Trains’ hand and making them agree to bargain.

Thousands of Sydney Trains members have also voted to force them to the table, however given the imminent nature of the release of the Notice of Employee Representational Rights it is likely that an application to the Fair Work Commission will not be necessary.

In other news, your EA delegates met last week and unanimously endorsed the position that Sydney and NSW Trains members will be bargaining together this round. Even if management do not want to sit in the room with each other, our Delegates will not be divided and will stick together throughout the bargaining process.

The Log of Claims developed from membership feedback and in consultation with your EA Delegates is right here. Delegates will endorse the claim soon and will table this when negotiations finally commence.

Currently Sydney and NSW Trains have indicated that they wish to hold the first bargaining meeting in June 2021. We believe that this is too far away (considering the EA expired on 1 May 2021) and will be pushing for an earlier date.

We will continue to keep members up to date as things progress.

In Solidarity,
RTBU NSW
