Membership in coal almost 100 per cent

The RTBU is pleased to announce that membership in coal is climbing day by day and is approaching 100 per cent.

This is due to the expansion of the workforce in the industry with most operators taking on more employees as their businesses continue to grow at a rapid rate.

The take-up of membership also shows that workers understand and appreciate the important work unions do negotiating and also maintaining conditions and pay in a competitive market.

It’s envisaged that the coal haulage for the Port of Newcastle will increase to close to 200 million tonnes per annum within the next couple of years, up from the 100 million tonnes hauled in the last 12 months.

Drivers are benefiting from the high demand for workers and it looks like this positive trend in the freight industry will continue well into the future.
