Major improvements at Glenlee
Health and safety conditions at QR Interail’s Glenlee rail siding have improved dramatically following action by the Loco Division.
Loco Division representatives Keith McMahon and Kevin Pryor first inspected the site three months ago, noting a range of hazardous conditions and issuing the company with a list of items to address.
These included poor lighting, uneven walkways, ineffective radio communications, excessive dust and even a plague of brown snakes.
The Division is pleased to report that a follow-up visit in March showed the company had taken action on a number these important issues and has agreed to quarterly safety inspections by the union to ensure the situation at the yard continues to improve.
The Division has prioritised health and safety conditions at freight yards and terminals and will be conducting a series of inspections throughout the year.
