It’s a train! ML70 Track Inspection Vehicle

RailCorp have recently sought to commission the above vehicle, which is a converted 600 class rail motor, to be utilised as a track inspection vehicle for predominantly metropolitan usage with some limited outer metropolitan work.

Originally RailCorp intended to operate this vehicle without a train driver, as they do their other track vehicles, despite the fact that is a two-car consist and therefore a “train”. The RTBU disputed this and has succeeded in having this work made available to drivers. An expression of interest has recently been circulated for Inter City drivers to fill this role.
