Infrastructure Tsar spruiks rail privatisation
The privatisation of RailCorp has been put back on the agenda by Barry O’Farrell’s hand-picked infrastructure adviser, Mr Paul Broad.
In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Mr Broad said NSW should follow the lead of former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett, and privatise passenger rail services.
Mr Broad is the incoming CEO of Infrastructure NSW – the new agency that will be responsible for determining the Government’s priorities for new transport projects.
It’s good to see the Government taking transport infrastructure seriously, but Mr Broad’s comments have raised fears that the new agency has a hidden agenda to private services and sell off assets.
The RTBU has written to the Premier making it clear that any move to privatise RailCorp will be vigorously opposed.
