Disappointing Bureau of Meteorology outcome, time to Change The Rules!

Jul 6, 2018Update
This week, in a disappointing outcome for the CPSU and their members, the Bureau of Meteorology management have succeeded in their tactics to divide their workforce and secure a substandard agreement.
The Agreement which was voted up by a slither of 51%, delivers no back pay for their workforce who have not seen a pay increase for 5 years – despite market inflation. This means that in real terms, these workers’ salaries have in fact decreased in comparison to the rising costs of living.
The Agreement included a a 6% pay rise over 18 months (3.5% on approval, 1.5% 12 months after and a further 1% 18 months from commencement); but without any mention of back pay.
The CPSU told Workplace Express that “We had urged Bureau staff to vote no because we believe you are worth more, and we still believe that.”
This is another demonstration of exactly why we need to change the rules. If workers can go 5 years without a pay increase, and then have absolutely no back pay in their Agreement – our workplace rules are CLEARLY broken.
We send our solidarity to BOM workers today. This disappointing outcome must be used as an opportunity to create unity, strength and power to stand up and fight back!
