SSR: wage freeze threat

The Loco Division is not supporting a proposed wage freeze being put to members by freight company SSR. The company has told the union they will proceed with a vote for a wage freeze along with a modified EA.

The company has not provided any evidence of the need for the proposed wage freeze or committed to guaranteeing employee job security if it goes ahead.

A meeting earlier in October was unproductive with the directors not considering alternatives put forward to mitigate the huge impact the wage freeze would have on employees.

During the meeting, the company ruled any increase in 2014 including CPI or increasing superannuation and accrued entitlements as if the scheduled pay rise had gone ahead.

Members are advised the union can’t stop the vote going ahead and that if a majority of employees who vote agree with the wage freeze it will go ahead.
