Phase 1 ATP implementation

Mar 26, 2019Update

Members are advised that Phase 1 of ATP implementation will commence between Newcastle and Cockle Creek on 29 March 2019.

Run 299 on a weekday and run 288 on weekends have been nominated as ATP-designated services and these will be operated by ATP qualified drivers from Newcastle and Sydney (Eveleigh) depots.

ATP training is currently being undertaken by these two depots with Gosford depot proposed to commence ATP training in late April, early May.

The nominated services will be prepared in the “normal” mode and operate with ATP active for the full timetabled runs including outside the ATP designated areas mentioned above. If degraded operations occur and drivers are required to operate the above runs who have not been ATP trained or qualified, the driver will return the switch to “bypass” in the lead cab only and operate in that mode until relieved by an ATP qualified driver.

The requirements of TWP 100 will apply in regards to the handover process. If for any reason the ATP system is to be isolated authority from MET Control to do so will be required.
