Transport staff among most insecure

A large number of NSW public transport staff feel insecure in their jobs, a confidential Public Service Commission survey of workers has found.

The People Matters survey, conducted between July and August last year ranks staff on how secure they feel in their jobs. Among the workers feeling most insecure are those in the Marine Parks Authority, Sydney Water and Forests NSW.

Loco Division secretary Bob Hayden said that given the O’Farrell Government has cut about 1000 RailCorp jobs already and more are expected, the results of the survey are no real surprise.

“The O’Farrell Government has been pointing the finger at workers and blaming them for the government’s mismanagement of public transport for a long time now. It’s no real surprise that staff aren’t feeling secure in that environment,” Bob Hayden said.

“The O’Farrell Government’s job cuts are clearly having an impact on the confidence of workers, which can only have a detrimental impact on service and staff turnover.

“It’s disgraceful that the government continues to use its workforce as scapegoats for poor management.”
