Train hitchhiker nabbed
A woman will appear in court in March after allegedly riding on the top of a freight train for four hours as it reached speeds of up to 115km/h across western NSW.
The driver of the train told police he saw the 27-year-old women climb on top of the freight train at Broken Hill and jump off again unharmed Ivanhoe Railway Station some 320km away.
The police then tracked down a woman fitting the driver’s description in Ivanhoe.
The Broken Hill woman, who said she was trying to make her way to Adelaide, is due to appear in Broken Hill Local Court on March 11, charged with travelling on a part of the train not intended for passenger use.
