Taree Centenary celebrations
100 years on, and the Taree Railway can still put on a good show.
The Centenary Celebrations of the Taree Railway held recently were a fitting tribute to 100 years of rail heritage in the region.
There were team train rides, stalls, memorabilia on display, a BBQ hosted by the RTBU, ’93 PN class trains, steam engines, rides for the kids and an official re-enactment train.
Special thanks must go to the following people, who played a big role in the success of the weekend.
Alex Classens, Steve Wright, Peter O’Connor and Paul (Porky) Collins for their input and contribution (in their own time) to make it an excellent and memorable weekend. The donation of the Union trailer for the fundraising BBQ’s was extremely popular with the visitors and was very well patronized.
Also to the Taree Members who gave up their time leading up to and during the celebrations. With Alex, Steve, Pete and Porky they all contributed to make it a successful and memorable celebration that they and the community can all be proud of.
Members Col Evers, Josh Kime, John Mountney, Darren Amos, Trevor McDean, Terry Bramble, Terry Pritchard, Mick Kime, Glenn Parker and Andy Hillyard all donated their time. And finally to the current and former members from other depots and areas who all turned out on the day.
Local delegate and Taree Centenary Commiteeman Peter Mundey said the combined efforts from all rail companies and divisions in the area contributed to make the weekend the success it was.
“It was great to see the interaction and banter that went on between the groups and I believe this only helps to build a stronger union,” he said.
“The contribution of so many from far and wide was greatly appreciated.”
