Sydney Trains simulators rolling out

Jul 13, 2016News

A number of ‘simulators’, designed to be used for workers’ development, are set to be rolled out within Sydney Trains.

Sydney Trains recently signed contracts and purchased eight desktop simulators based on the “A” set Waratah train.

The simulators will be used for the development of drivers, trainers and principal drivers and at this point it is suggested they be used for degraded faults and failures, procedures and rule based scenarios, return to work and investigations. There will also be a free play space where drivers can just practice scenarios.

It is important to note that the training plan has not yet been developed or consulted, and no detailed application or full installation details have been received.

What we do know is that there will be one set up at Burwood for testing/trialing purposes and for developing degraded faults and failures scenarios. Initially, two will also be set up at Flemington for drivers to operate them and provide feedback. A user guide and instructional manual will be provided with each machine and they will be under the authority of the local area managers.

In total, there will initially be eight – two at Flemington, two in Blacktown, two at Central, one at ASY and one at Burwood. No desktop simulator should impact on train crew amenities or interfere with the taking of crib by train crew.

If you have any feedback at all on the simulators, please send it through to the Loco Division head office.
