Stations put holt to ads critical of Rupert

The three big commercial networks – channels seven, nine and ten – have refused to air advisements that criticise the Murdoch owned press’ anti-Labor coverage.

The ad, which was created by lobby group GetUp! shows a man telling viewers that “it was great when you could pick up a paper and get, well, news. Recently the Courier Mail and the Daily Tele have been using their front pages to run a political campaign instead.”

A sales executive at Seven said the network had decided to “make a stand” over the ad, saying it was distasteful and potentially offensive.

GetUp! National director Sam McLean says the ban “is censorship pure and simple.”
