Signal win at Central
A signal upgrade late last year resulted in major concerns for drivers at Central, with the change to the signal position on the country end of platform 18 making it difficult for drivers to see from the 8-car mark.
The signal at SY 381 S was moved closer to the platform during the upgrade, which made it increasingly difficult for drivers to see from their normal seated position.
The Loco Division immediately met with Sydney Trains management and requested the safety issue be addressed.
Following an inspection and correspondence between the parties it was agreed the platform end fence could be moved 1.5metres back along the platform and a new 8-car mark installed.
It was also agreed that all train crew who use Platform 18 would be made aware of the impending changes. Despite originally failing to inform relevant workers of the changes, the company has now advised the crew.
