Sector 1 Rostering Dispute

Mortdale, Cronulla and Waterfall depots have had a big safety win recently, with drivers fighting to maintain review road diagrams following Sydney Trains’ attempt to remove them.

The introduction of the timetable changes in June meant that the depots had their weekend cross sector diagrams removed on the grounds that they are no longer qualified for the traction operating on these sectors, ie Waratahs and Millenniums.

These depots were also only allocated Review Roads diagrams on weekdays – a move the RTBU viewed as failing to supply “sufficient” trips to maintain the required route knowledge.

The RTBU took the view that this was an attempt at sectorisation by stealth on Sector 1 and this was subsequently disputed by these depots.

The end result was that Sydney trains has now allocated additional review road diagrams to supply “sufficient trips” cross sector in accordance with Clause 135.2 of the 2010 EA.
