Secretary’s wrap
Pacific National’s decision to cut more than 120 jobs, mostly from the Hunter and the Illawarra, is a slap in the face for permanent workers everywhere.
It appears that PN’s strategy is to casualise the workforce by making permanent workers redundant and then hiring casuals or labour hire who have no job security.
They did not consult with their workers, or the union, before deciding to make the redundancies. The RTBU national office is now looking at all possible legal avenues to limit the impact of PN’s decision. Read more below and make sure you check the Loco Express website for ongoing updates.
This week we are also standing with our national colleagues in the Bus and Tram division, who are shocked by the death of a bus driver in Queensland. The driver was killed while on the job and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. In the meantime we are supporting any members affected.
Stay safe on the tracks.
