Secretary’s wrap
It’s been a terribly difficult week in the Loco Division this week, following the passing of our dear friend, Vice President – Passenger Division, and long-term Loco Division delegate, John Sotiriou.
Many of you would know John from his many years in the industry. He was a gentle giant, respected by everyone he came across, and an incredibly strong advocate for our Loco Division members as can be seen in the comments left by those who knew him.
For me personally, John has always been a great sounding board and someone who, irrespective of the issue, I knew I could trust to provide a sensible and rationale perspective on. His support has always been unwavering and his dedication to standing up for the rights of workers, unparalleled.
John’s death has been challenging for all who knew him and I know I speak for everyone at the Loco Division when I say he will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Our thoughts particularly go out to John’s family at this difficult time. John was always a true family man.
I know many of you will be attending John’s funeral on Monday 2 May at Lidcombe, with John’s family requested that those workmates who are attending do so in full uniform.
The details of the funeral can be found here.
John – we’ll miss you mate. The union movement has lost a true friend of the workers.
Bob Hayden
Secretary, Loco Division
