Secretary’s wrap

Prepare to hear a lot about Sydney Trains’ reform plans in my Secretary’s wrap over the coming months. The process is only just beginning, but it’s going to be long and frustrating but members can be assured nothing will be agreed by the division and your delegates unless members have given any outcome their approval.

The latest update is that following the initial meeting with RTBU reps, we arranged a briefing meeting with your delegates and management so delegates could hear from the company what its plans are.

It will come as no surprise to hear that the company was talking glowingly about the need to alter some practices slightly so as they see it we’re all prepared for the future.

Delegates read that to mean the company is trying to push through a reform agenda and management know that because of the clauses we managed to get in our EA, they need to get approval from the workforce to do that. So the company is trying to gloss over everything to try and convince us to help them achieve what they want.

Things have also been interesting at QUBE, with members there recently voting down the company’s proposed enterprise agreement. The union negotiating team are now going back to the company in a last ditch attempt to reach an agreement that delivers the fair wages and conditions members deserve. If the company still refuses to budge, we’ll have to explore other options available to us.
