Secretary’s wrap
Drivers on the South West Rail Link recently will have noticed a slow down notice for driving between Leppington and Edmonson Park.
Initially the 115kph speed limit was changed to 10kph one direction and 40kph the other, and then increased to 60kph and 80kph.
Sydney Trains offered drivers no explanation about the changes leaving many of our members to wonder if it was safe to drive along those tracks at all.
Given the track was only opened six months ago, the move was quite concerning. We’ll be keeping a very close eye on the issue.
The Newcastle rail line is also in the headlines again, with the NSW Government’s appeal against the Supreme Court decision which ruled that the Government could not legally rip up the line as it had planned, currently being heard. Stay tuned for more on that one.
Also, Loco Division members have said they’d like to see a hard copy version of LocoExpress. We’ve listened, and we’re about to deliver. Keep your eyes peeled for Around the Tracks in meal rooms near you shortly. The first edition is due out in mid-August.
I hope you’ll enjoy this edition of Loco Express. Stay safe on the tracks.

Secretary, Loco Division
