Secretary’s wrap
It’s been all systems go here at the Loco Division lately, with work continuing on ensuring workers at Pacific National are protected following the company’s recent announcement that it is cutting 44 jobs from Bulk and Coal.
Briefing meetings have now been held at affected depots, and the union is attempting to meet with the company regularly in order to get updates and to try and secure employment opportunities for impacted members.
This will obviously be a very difficult time for our Pacific National comrades, and we’ll be continuing to provide as much support as possible. If any PN workers have any queries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your delegate or the Loco Division office.
The State Budget is coming up at the end of this month and the RTBU has been discussing what we want to see included in the budget. Among our wish list is an increase in transport services for regional and rural NSW and also an increase in safety provisions for workers.
Our recent member survey showed that around 44 per cent of transport workers have been assaulted while at work. That’s not good enough, and we’ll be calling for a funding for a range of safety measures, including saliva testing kits and personal safety alarms to be included in upcoming budget.
Your Loco Divisional Council/Executive also met this week to discuss a number of important issues affecting members across the Freight and Passenger sectors, including member communications. A decision made to modernise the Loco Express website to make it more phone and tablet friendly – stay tuned for the new look site very shortly.
Executive also discussed developing a hard copy newsletter covering off all the issues relevant to Loco Division members. This is an its early stages, but keep your eyes peeled for a newsletter in your meal rooms soon.
I trust you’ll enjoy this edition of Loco Express. Stay safe on the tracks.
