S Set here to stay
The government has refused to retire S Sets trains, despite commuter complaints about the lack of air-conditioning on the trains.
Documents obtained by Fairfax media show that the trains lifespan will be extended for a number more years.
The trains were originally due to retire in the coming couple of years, however a budget memo written by Transport for NSW director-general Les Wielinga shows plans to keep them for many more years.
Transport for NSW confirmed that the 24 S Set trains will stay and help deliver more services in a new timetable and when the south-west rail link opens.
