RTBU joins May Day march
RTBU members and officials were among the thousands of workers who took to the streets on the weekend as part of Sydney’s May Day march.
The march, which celebrates the achievements of workers locally and across the globe, had a number of focal points this year – from government cuts to privatisation of public services.
The RTBU contingent was, as always, among the crowd as they marched through the streets to show solidarity for workers rights and to oppose government cuts at both a state and federal level.
RTBU Loco Division Secretary Bob Hayden was among the crowd and said it was heartening to see so many RTBU faces among the 7000-odd marchers.
“Loco Division members have achieved a lot in recent times, but we also know we’ve got a tough road ahead of us,” Bob Hayden said.
“May Day is an important celebration for all workers. It’s a time to reflect on the achievements of workers throughout the decades and also to look forward at the challenges which lie ahead.”
