Rio Tinto plans to use drones to monitor workers’ private lives
Rio Tinto has already replaced workers with automated trucks and trains, and now they want to survey their workforce via live streams to a monitoring station in Perth.
Privacy advocates say this could set a precedent that extends well beyond the mining industry, and workers say the set up will pave the way for further automation of the workforce.
“[Rio Tinto’s data gathering] will lead to unwanted psychological stress which will lead to extra pressure and loss of focus on the job,” an anonymous Rio Tinto worker told The Guardian.
