Wage parity was on top of the agenda at your Enterprise Agreement talks at Friday’s meeting. Your RTBU Team made it clear that the members and Railtrain employees deserve to be paid the same as the person that they are working next to. The RTBU will keep fighting for wage parity, rostering conditions, fatigue management, safety in the workplace and general rights that YOU deserve in YOUR Enterprise Agreement.
The RTBU also put Railtrain on notice regarding their distribution of the draft EA to all employees before even discussing it with the RTBU, particularly when they are supposed to be bargaining in good faith. Railtrain stated that they gave a copy to the RTBU at the same time that the draft EA was emailed to their employees (they didn’t). The RTBU had to remind Railtrain that the RTBU is the nominated bargaining representative for Railtrain employees – this means all employees who are a member of the RTBU and not just those who submitted a Notice of Employee Representational Rights.
When asked further about this, Railtrain informed the RTBU that distributing a draft EA for ‘employee feedback’ prior to supplying a copy of the EA to the RTBU (the nominated bargaining representatives) was how they had always bargained. However, the RTBU does not appreciate Railtrain distributing a sub-standard EA with no substantive changes for employees to provide ‘feedback’ on.
It is worth mentioning that the EA distributed by Railtrain last week is the same EA but for a few wording and structural changes – do NOT be fooled by Railtrain’s attempt at leading you to believe that they have changed the EA since it was voted down or that they have conceded on anything since the no vote.
The RTBU Team will continue to fight for a decent EA on your behalf.
