RailCorp: train preparation at risk
RailCorp have proposed to reduce the train preparation procedure (for silver sets and Tangara trains) and therefore reduce the time taken by drivers to perform this important work. For 18 months, the loco division has been consulting with RailCorp regarding concerns about the safety implications of this reduction.
The loco division believes that train preparation is a vital pre-emptive safety check that should be carried out by the driver for the safety of its members and the travelling public.
RailCorp has recently stated its intentions to roll the reduced procedure out to all depots. The RTBU have again documented all outstanding safety issues to RailCorp for actioning before this happens. Members will be continually updated on the progress of this project.
