NSW Trains drivers left with pay shortfall

Oct 21, 2016News

The RTBU Loco Division has recently been made aware that NSW Trains failed to pay time credits to numerous drivers during a shutdown period. This left dozens of drivers with shortfalls in their pay packets.

We’ve been told that the cause of the problem is that the new internal pay system required approval from train crew management. However, an apparent lack of communication meant that management had no idea that their approval was required for drivers to receive time credits.

The RTBU immediately escalated this issue into Step 2 Dispute as it is a breach of Clause 3.11.3 of the Drivers Working and Rostering Arrangements. A meeting was requested by the RTBU to resolve this issue within the dispute settlement procedure time frames.

The Loco Division understands that our members have important financial commitments that they need to meet, especially in today’s climate. Unfortunately, it’s clear that management made this irresponsible and badly managed change in timekeeping process with disregard for the impact it could have on employees.

We’ll keep you posted as this dispute progresses.
