New National Medical Standards and RTBU roadshows

Changes to the National Standard for Health Assessment for Rail Safety Workers have now been approved by State Transport Ministers.

The new National Safety Standards contain some significant differences to the previous version, particularly in areas relating to obesity and sleep apnoea.

The new standards come into effect on 20 January 2013.

The RTBU has been in discussion with the National Transport Commission and industry employer groups and as a result of those negotiations, RTBU members will only be assessed as part of their next assessment – whenever that is due.

The RTBU wants to provide you with relevant information to help you meet the standards and as such is conducting “Fit, Healthy and United” road shows to explain the changes for rail safety workers. In addition, RT Health officers will be in attendance to provide general health checks such as blood pressure readings and BMI calculations.

Depots identified for upcoming visits are as follows.  All members are welcome at any of these events.

Wednesday 5^th December, 11.00am – 12.30pm, Bala Rd, Adamstown

Morriset Infrastructure Depot
Wednesday 5^th December, 2pm – 3pm, 81 Macquarie St

Lithgow Infrastructure Depot
Friday 7^th December, 7.30am – 9am, Carpark Shed, Inch St

Valley Heights
Friday 7^th December, 10am – 12pm, RailCorp District Office, 54-56 Green Parade

Penrith Station
Friday 7^th December, 2pm – 4pm, Learning and Development Room, Platform 3
