National Day of Respect for Public Transport Workers: Nov 9

Nov 9, 2016News

We’re asking commuters to say ‘Thank You’ to public transport workers on Wednesday the 9th of November.

Australia’s first-ever National Day of Respect for Public Transport Workers has been organised by the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (TWU) and the Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) in response to the horrific death of Brisbane bus driver Manmeet Sharma, also known as Manmeet Alisher.

Commuters around Australia are being asked to reflect on the role of public transport workers in ensuring people can move around their cities and towns, and to take the simple step of saying “thank you” to bus drivers, tram drivers, taxi drivers and other public transport workers.

Unions are also using the Day of Respect to highlight the continuing need to tackle unacceptable levels of violence and anti-social behaviour on public transport. 14980669_1136863189695851_4126318590192815939_n
