Labor announces $400 million commitment to north-south rail link

Chifley MP Ed Husic has backed his party’s $400 million pledge to make the vital link a reality, although the plan is not without its critics. NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance immediately hit back at the proposal, calling its lack of detail “bizarre”.

A different version of the north-south rail link is among six potential rail projects floated by the state and federal governments to service the airport and greater western Sydney.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten unveiled an early commitment to the line last Wednesday. If elected, Labor’s version would run from Macarthur to St Marys via Leppington before eventually connecting to the Sydney Metro at Rouse Hill.
