Hundreds turn out to farewell retirees

A retirement get-together for six retirees – three Drivers and three Guards from Wollongong was held recently at Thirroul Bowling Club.

Over 160 friends and family gathered to wish the dedicated RTBU members – who have almost two centuries of experience between them – a long, healthy and happy retirement.

Drivers Dennis Fitzgerald (43 years service), Daniel Franklin (43 years service) and Gary Edwards (38 years service) and the three guards, Kerry Smith (principle, 44 years service), Douglas Duncan (23 years service) and John Nestor (5 years service) have all been long-time, loyal RTBU members.

Many kind words were said and all the retirees received gifts that were presented to them by Barry Beahen.

After a short speech, MP John Aquilina presented the drivers with a plaque on behalf of the Rail Tram and Bus Union in recognition for over thirty years of membership to the Locomotive Division.
