Fancy travelling at 603km/hr? Train breaks world record

Apr 22, 2015News

A Japanese maglev has broken its own speed record, hitting 603 km/hour this week.

The seven-car train travelled for just over 1.8km at speeds faster than 600km/hr.

The maglev (short for magnetic levitation) hovers 10cm above the track and is propelled by electrically charged magnets.

It is expected that maglev trains will link Tokyo and Osaka by 2045, and that the 500-odd kilometre journey will take just one hour and seven minutes.

The Japanese Government is currently looking to sell its train systems overseas, with the United States the first stop for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
