Changes to alcohol limit

The permissible blood alcohol concentration for rail safety workers has reduced and the penalties for offences have increased, following changes to the Rail Safety Act and Regulation.

The permissible limit has dropped form 0.02% to mil and the maximum fine has increased to $10,000.

Rail unions, including the RTBU, will be consulting with RailCorp on the changes and ensuring any changes are properly communicated to employees.

The NSW Rail Safety Act (Adoption of National Law) Act 2012 will replace the Rail Safety Act 2008 and the National Rail Safety Regulator will replace the Independent Transport Safety Regulator with effect from 20 January 2013.
