PN’s move to hire casuals
Pacific National has started a process of employing a casual workforce in the Newcastle and Gunnedah Basin region, without any consultation with the union.
The company sent a communication out to members in the region informing them of the move to start hiring casuals, which forced the union to take action and place the matter into dispute.
The RTBU applied to the Fair Work Commission to have the Commission arbitrate on the matter.
The union will challenge the need for casuals, as it has also been confirmed (by senior management) that due to a change in haulage contract, the compny will be looking at further redundancies in the new year.
Pacific National has claimed the matter is not currently in dispute, as no employees are affected, however we completely disagree and are urging all members to contact management to voice your concerns.
Stay tuned for updates.
