BREAKING NEWS: Job loss at Pacific National
Pacific National has just announced that it is about to cut 44 jobs from across the Bulk and Coal areas of the business.
The company has confirmed it is looking to cut seven jobs from Port Kembla Coal, 20 from Cootamundra Bulk and 17 from Parkes Bulk.
The RTBU is currently working around the clock in an attempt to minimise the number of forced redundancies and the impact on members as much as possible, and is seeking further urgent meetings with the company to get a guarantee that everything possible has been done to prevent us from getting to this point.
The company has agreed to the RTBU’s request to hold briefing meetings to discuss the job loss and the impact on members as soon as possible and the union has arranged for financial experts and union representatives to be on hand to assist members at those meetings. A full list of those meeting details are as follows:
Monday 1 June 2015
Parkes: 1.30pm at Services Club, Short Street (opposite PN offices)
Tuesday 2 June 2015
Parkes: 8.30am at Training Room, PN offices
Cootamundra: 3.00pm at Ex-Servicemens Club, Cnr Parker & Wallendoon Streets, Cootamundra
Wednesday 3 June 2015
Cootamundra: 10.00am at Ex-Servicemens Club, Cnr Parker & Wallendoon Streets, Cootamundra
Thursday 4 June 2015
Port Kembla: 10.00am at Fraternity Club, 11 Bourke Street Fairy Meadow
The RTBU has also obtained a guarantee that employment opportunities will be available for affected members at Enfield Bulk (25 full-time jobs and 15 part-time jobs) and Moss Vale Bulk (10 full-time jobs).
We realise this is a very difficult time for members and their families, particularly given Pacific National put its workforce through a similar situation last year. We will be providing as much support as possible to affected members.
Further information will be available at the briefings next week, but please contact your local delegate or the RTBU NSW office if you have any urgent concerns in the meantime.
