PN redundancies – the latest

Rumours have been circulating about redundancies in the Intermodal, PNQ and Bulk areas of Pacific National business for some time now.

The union has been seeking urgent meetings with the company to discuss the proposed redundancies since news first surfaced, however have only just managed to secure written correspondence from management about the issue.

The latest correspondence confirms that Intermodal management has agreed to extend the Expressions of Interest until 5pm, 8 May. This is only for Intermodal – Bulk unfortunately have not had the extension at this stage.

As such, the Loco Division has now lodged an application with the Fair Work Commission to hear a dispute about the redundancies and the process in PN Bulk.

The correspondence also confirmed that the company is looking at reducing positions by 10 per cent at each Intermodal depot and will not consider job sharing or part-time positions.

The RTBU understands how difficult this time is for all employees and will fight as hard as we can for the rights of workers.

We are incredibly disappointed at the lack of respect the company has shown workers throughout this period and will continue seeking meetings with management to demand further information.
