Broken Hill and Brisbane shunting concerns
Concerns have been raised about some rail companies’ use of DOO shunting.
In Broken Hill, Pacific National employees were being asked undertake shunting – despite the fact that PN doesn’t have accreditation to do DOO shunting or modifications to locomotives.
Similarly in Acacia Ridge in Queensland, QR National have been caught out attempting to introduce DOO without any consultation with employees or the union.
A meeting with QR National to discuss this serious issue has been requested and a risk assessment has already been carried out in Broken Hill, with ITSE, the regulator, in attendance.
The division is now awaiting the outcome of the ITSR review.
