Tax time: keep an eye on your claims

The government has provided more funding to the ATO to scrutinise taxpayer claims regarding work-related expenses and property.

An article on news.com.au quotes Mr Chapman, H&R Block director of tax communications, as saying if you “can’t substantiate it, you can’t claim it”. Make sure you’ve got the receipt or invoice or bank statement that proves you incurred the expense.”

Of particular note to members is the deliberate focus work-related expenses.
