Sydney Trains Meltdown

Sep 4, 2019Update

Chaos reigned last Friday as the entire city rail network broke down due to a train needing repairs at Town Hall.

The train at Town Hall had a rooftop hatch perilously close to some overhanging wiring and needed urgent repairs. Sydney Trains has said this is due to their ancient system – something we could have confirmed!

Commuters were told to take buses or walk with some even being told to cross the Harbour Bridge as buses were too full!

Getting to the city for most was impossible or extremely delayed and trains are still catching up to their normal timetables. Delays are only expected to get worse come afternoon peak hour.

“This is just another example of why the government needs to focus on the current heavy rail infrastructure. It’s ridiculous that an entire network shuts down after one train needs repairs,” said RTBU Loco Division Secretary Bob Hayden.

“It puts the staff under more pressure and overloads other modes of public transport such as buses and light rail causing more chaos. This has to stop.”
