Secretary’s wrap

Pacific National’s move to cut jobs from Port Waratah has been keeping the Loco Division team busy recently.

The union has been attempting to discuss the redundancy process with the company in the hope of minimising the pain for affected members and their families during this incredibly difficult time.

We recently wrote to the company outlining how we think the process could be better handled. Management responded with an interesting letter (you can see it in the article below), which in essence dismissed our concerns that the company’s approach to redundancies is not showing members the respect they deserve. We’ll keep you updated on this ongoing situation.

Over at Sydney Trains, the reform process goes on. We’re running another member survey in order to gauge your views on some of the key issues – if you haven’t already, please take the time to fill it out. I’d also like to remind all members that all of the information we get from the company, we are sharing with you. If you feel like there’s a lack of detail, you’re right. The company is still to provide us with much detail, but your delegate working groups are doing everything they can with the information they have.

While the reform process is focused on Sydney Trains today, NSW Trains members should keep a close eye on this process because we have no doubt that the same thing could happen there any moment.

I trust you’ll enjoy this edition of Loco Express.

Stay safe on the tracks,

Bob Hayden
Secretary, Loco Division
