There are a number of big events coming up over the next few weeks – not least is the ACTU-led rallies across the country on March 4th.
The rallies are designed to show our politicians that many of us are worried about our rights at work and our living standards, and are concerned with the Federal Government’s policies and the direction they are taking Australia.
Put March 4th in your diaries – it’s important as many workers as possible stand together to show that we won’t stand for attacks on our basic rights.
There’s also a very important Loco Division BBQ tour coming over the coming weeks. Division reps will be touring around the state, cooking up sausages and talking to members about concerns in the workplace, and generally about the union and what you want to see from the Division.
Come along to the meetings with an empty stomach and a few ideas as to how you think the union can improve its communications and work towards improving our working conditions in the year ahead.
And then, of course, there’s the State Election. We’ve seen both parties talking about what their views for public transport in the state are. Looking specifically at rail, the Loco Division is particularly concerned about rail privatisation plans, driverless trains, job loss and moves to rip up the Newcastle line. We want to see more public transport infrastructure and more jobs, not less, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on the different parties plans in the lead up to 28 March.
I hope you enjoy this edition of Loco Express.
