Pt Augusta farewells top drivers
A special message from the Pt August branch which is farewelling five of its drivers:
“The Pt Augusta RTBU Sub Branch PN would like to give our heartfelt goodbye and very best wishes to five of our drivers and long standing members who as of the end of this month will be retiring from service.
Among the drivers heading off to retirement are Graham Sharp 51 yrs, Peter Doering 37 yrs, Graham Archer 37 yrs, Jim Dawson 47 yrs, Peter Carey 35 yrs
Between them, they have a total of 207 years service stretching back to the Commonwealth Railways to Australian National Rail and then onto National Rail and Pacific National.
Pt Augusta has a long and proud association and history with the rail industry since the opening of the Trans Australian Railway in 1917 and also the Central Australian Railway both narrow gauge and standard gauge in later years.
We are a small and tight nit community in Pt Augusta and these characters are well known and respected in our community and we have no doubt that many a beer and tale will be had and told when we celebrate their retirement.
We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours and with family and the novelty of sleeping in their own beds.”
