PN voluntary redundancies and company lies

Apr 6, 2016News

In what has come to a complete shock to the union and employees, Pacific National Intermodal has just announced it is calling for voluntary redundancies.

A memo was sent to workers on Tuesday evening outlining the process for the redundancy call and claiming that the company has consulted with the RTBU and will continue to do so over the coming weeks.

This is completely incorrect. The union has not been consulted on any voluntary redundancy process at all.

The company is claiming that the call for voluntary redundancies Parkes, Broken Hill, Sydney, Melbourne, Dimboola, Port Augusta, Adelaide, Kalgoorlie and Perth is required as a result of external economic factors and a continued downturn in volume which is having a negative impact on the business.

The union is incredibly concerned about the seemingly knee-jerk reaction from the company, the lack of consultation with the union (and the lies about union knowledge), and the impact this will have on workers and their families.

The RTBU is seeking urgent discussions with the company and will be providing as much support as possible to affected workers during this difficult time.

If you have any queries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your local delegate or the Loco Division office.
