National railway level crossing safety strategy launched

Apr 5, 2017News

A new national strategy for level crossing safety has been launched, aiming to coordinate best practise and increase safety across Australia.

It’s been welcomed by the TrackSAFE Foundation, which says it’s been designed to “significantly improve” safety via greater collaboration and investment.

“With roughly 23,500 level crossings across our network level crossing collisions remain of serious concern for the rail industry. This Strategy is a welcome step for reducing the likelihood of serious incidents occurring at railway level crossings,” said Naomi Frauenfelder, Executive Director of the TrackSAFE Foundation.

Safety should always be the number one priority when it comes to our railways, and we’re hoping that the new strategy leads to ongoing investment and, ultimately, safer level crossings.
