LocoTV: 20 December 2013

Dec 20, 2013

In this edition of Loco TV hear the latest information on the NSW/Sydney Trains car park review, the new activists network and meet the latest members to receive the honour of Life Membership of the RTBU.

1.

The Loco Division has been working closely with members at depots impacted by Sydney and NSW Trains proposed staff car park review to ensure no worker is negatively impacted by management’s plans.

A number of site visits have been held at the affected stations and the Loco Division would like to thank all members who took the time to get involved in the visits.

A number of concerns about the car park review were raised by members, including security, the lack of any alternative to driving cars to work and the fact that most of the staff car parks aren’t actually accessible by commuters anyway.

Further meetings and consultation will take place prior to any changes being made, and members can rest assured that the union will continue to argue for safe and sufficient parking for all employees.

2.

An activists network has been created ahead of the Rail Entities enterprise agreement negotiations.

The list of over 200 members including depot organising committee members and health and safety reps will work to ensure that all key information about the EA reaches all affected members.

With the Rail Entities negotiations set to be our toughest ever, it’s important that all members are kept up to date with the latest, correct information – and this activists list will be critical to ensuring that.

3.

A couple of very well deserving long term members received the ultimate accolade from the Loco Division recently – life membership of the RTBU.

John Aquilina and Rodney Short were presented with the special award following long and distinguished careers as train drivers – John at Wollongong and Rodney in Newcastle.

The Loco Division would like to congratulate both John and Rodney – who have 92 year service between them – on their Life Membership and wish them a safe and enjoyable retirement.

4.

Loco TV is taking a brief break over the Christmas period, but we’ll be back at the end of January with all your latest Loco news for what is set to be a very busy 2014.

In the meantime, on behalf of the RTBU Loco Division, I’d like to wish you all a safe and merry festive season and you for all your hard work and support throughout 2013.
