LABOR CALLS ON PREMIER TO SIDELINE CONSTANCE- TRANSPORT MINISTER HAS LOST CONTROL OF THE RAILWAYS

Jan 17, 2018Update

NSW Labor Media Release

The Labor Opposition is calling on the Premier to sideline the Transport Minister and intervene to resolve an industrial dispute ahead of a planned 24 hour train strike on January 29.
Quotes attributable to Opposition Leader Luke Foley.

“Andrew Constance is responsible for the total breakdown of relations on the railways.
“His constant denigration of train drivers has resulted in the announcement of Sydney’s first passenger rail strike this century.

“Bargaining over a new enterprise agreement has collapsed before it has even begun, thanks to the Minister’s belligerence.

“Mr Constance has publicly boasted that he won’t have to deal with the rail union because of driverless trains and that the government will no longer provide public transport services.
“The Premier must sideline this hapless minister and take charge of negotiations in order to resolve this dispute.”

Quotes attributable to Shadow Transport Minister Jodi McKay
“Hundreds of thousands of commuters have suffered through the shambolic meltdowns of Sydney’s rail system in December and early January.”
“The NSW Government has rolled out a new timetable that just cannot be delivered in practice.
“The year is only 16 days old but one thing is clear- the Transport Minister has lost control of the railways.
