Hunter and Illawarra jobs go as Pacific National cuts 121 freight rail positions

Oct 28, 2016News

Pacific National has announced big job cuts which will hit the Hunter Valley and the Illawarra hard.

There are 121 jobs on the line in total, with 32 drivers to go from Port Waratah, eight from Greta, 12 from Gunnedah, nine from Narrabi and 23 from Port Kembla. There will also be 24 extra jobs lost at Port Waratah, nine at Greta and five in the Illawarra when the company moves its “live run” planning and rostering positions to North Sydney.

RTBU organiser Steve Wright told the Newcastle Herald PN is trying to “casualise the industry by stealth”.

“At the same time that they are presenting redundancies to their permanent workforce they are advertising for casual drivers with employment agencies,” Mr Wright said. Read the full article here.
